WIRRAL BOROUGH COUNCIL HELPS PAVE THE WAY FOR MAJOR RETAIL STORE IN BIRKENHEAD

Wirral Borough Council has passed a resolution to implement a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) affecting a block of properties on Grange Road in Birkenhead town centre to help assist with a speedy delivery of the new town centre store. The Council is taking this action to ensure that this new major multi-million pound investment in the town centre comes to fruition.

The regeneration of this part of Birkenhead is a fundamental element of the Council's vision. The plan shows that all the properties affected are commercial premises. The Council and the developers, Castlewood Developments (Birkenhead) and Pochin Developments, are keen to emphasise that these are the only buildings affected by the CPO and that no residential properties will be affected by the CPO.

The freeholds of all the properties shown are already owned by the developers. The Council and the developers' agents are already working with the remaining existing businesses to help relocate them within the town centre as quickly as possible, to facilitate the start of construction works on the store.

Robert Shaw of Castlewood Developments comments: "The necessary 'off-site' works have already begun and will be completed prior to the clearance of the existing buildings from the site and the start of the new building. It is estimated that there are several months of enabling works prior to an anticipated start of the construction work of this new major asset for the town centre."
