POCHIN’S GETS A HIGHER EDUCATION

Pochin (Contractors) Ltd has commenced work on a new building at the University of Wales, Bangor continuing a 50-year relationship with the institution.

The £6 million project, part funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), will accommodate the growth of Environmental Sciences at Bangor and offer new facilities for university researchers, together with staff from the NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. In keeping with the environmental ethos, the complex development will feature solar powered Electricity generation, ground source heat pump, and grey water recycling.

Mike Goodwin, Director of Estates at the University of Wales, Bangor, said: "We are looking forward to extending the University's Environmental Sciences facilities and expect to unveil the building in late 2006. We have a long term relationship with Pochin's and are confident that their design and build input will assist us in delivering this challenging project."

Pochin's previous work at the site includes the recent completion of a psychology building, which has been carried out in three phases over the last five years.

Pochin's team include; Fairhursts Architects, engineers Veryard Opus and services engineer Clancy. Project manager Rose, quantity surveyor Gleeds with planning supervisor Tweeds are representing the University.
