POCHIN CONSTRUCTION SUPPORTS NORTH WALES SPORTING TALENT
11 May 2009
Pochin Construction took the opportunity to support Llandudno's local rugby community on Saturday (9th) by sponsoring the Llandudno RFC's Llewwlyn 'Welly' Evans Memorial Rugby Tournament.
Pochin Construction was the main sponsor for the tournament which hosted around 30 teams, competing in a range of age groups from under 8's to under 11's. The aim of the tournament was to raise funds for Llandudno RFC's junior division and help to promote participation in junior rugby across North Wales. The tournament also paid tribute to a former Llandudno RFC player, Llewleyn 'Welly' Evans, an elite soldier with the Royal Commandos, who was tragically killed in action on 21st March 2003 during one of the first special operations of the Gulf War.
Jonathan Pochin, managing director of Pochin Construction, commented: "As the main contractor for the Welsh Assembly Government's new offices at Llandudno Junction, we are mindful of the effect such lengthy construction projects can have on a community, so we are always keen to give something back to the local community wherever possible.
"Pochin has always had a keen interest in rugby, as many of
our employees support their own local teams and in some cases play
for them, so to be involved in a tournament which helps to
encourage young people to take up the sport is great. We were
impressed with the talent that North Wales displayed on Saturday -
there are certainly some stars in the making!"
