FULL STEAM AHEAD AT HQ CHESTER

Pochin Contractors is making good headway in the construction of a £65million mixed-use scheme in Chester city centre on behalf of Liberty Properties.

Located on the site of the former Cheshire Constabulary Headquarters, the 23,225 sq m (250,000 sq ft) scheme, known as HQ Chester, will comprise 35 residential apartments overlooking the famous Roodee racecourse, a four-star luxury hotel, 5,574 sq m (60,000 sq ft) offices and a number of restaurants. The envelope of the building incorporates glass and natural stone cladding and the roofs are standing seam zinc.

John Latham, contracts manager of Pochin Contractors comments: "Work is progressing well; the twin concrete basement is almost up to ground level, creating an underground car park over two levels. We have commenced the construction of the steel frame, which will be built over a 26-week period, and are working towards a completion date of summer 2009."

Paul Norman of Liberty Properties concludes: "This is a landmark regeneration project, which will completely transform this area of Chester and the balanced mix of residential, office and leisure facilities will strengthen the city's offering. With the steel frame now being erected, we are looking forward to seeing the scheme come to fruition."
