FULL STEAM AHEAD AT ELLESMERE WHARF
Mayor of Ellesmere Council, Councillor Geoff Elner and dignitaries joined Pochin Developments Limited, in a joint venture with Cornfield Properties, at a "ground-breaking" ceremony at Ellesmere Wharf in Shropshire.
The event marks the start of infrastructure works on the 31.5-acre site by contractor McPhillips (Wellington) Limited, which will see the regeneration of the former Creamery site and adjacent land into a high-quality mixed-use development.
The residential-led scheme also includes live-work units, a care home, retirement apartments and extra care sheltered housing. As well as the residential dwellings, a foodstore, public house, café, restaurant, a medical centre, pharmacy, a crèche and car parking will be provided. In addition, the development will provide a new public square, nature areas and comprehensive landscaping throughout the site.
Brian Reay, property divisional director comments: "We have undergone an in-depth planning consultation process to reach this milestone, working alongside the community and local authorities to ensure the plans compliment the surrounding area. The regeneration will transform the former Creamery site and provide a high quality, mixed-use development close to the heart of the town centre."
Councillor Geoff Elner adds: "We must thank the directors
of Pochin for their perseverance and wisdom in designing a scheme
that has been accepted by North Shropshire District Council,
everyone breathed a sigh of relief when planning permission was
eventually granted.
"I know that Pochin has consulted with all bodies and in
particular the local community and chamber of trade and commerce to
offer a scheme that is viable and that would suit the needs of the
town. This scheme will regenerate the wharf site, tastefully, in
keeping with the areas natural beauty and historical
setting."
